A useful, beautifully written book - good for postgraduate level. I have used it to inform my teaching at undergraduate level, but feel my undergraduate students would find it a little inaccessible.
This book gives a crisp, down-to-earth introduction into the workings of social science research in a way that concentrates attention on the big issues, rather than burying them in the detail of methods. I am recommending it not just for research methods purposes but more generally for anyone writing essays. The chapter on literature reviews is especially sharp. Because it's not a full-purpose methods text, many lecturers will see it only as a supplement or perhaps overlook what's really very good about it.
