Within the South African society with many previously disadvantaged people, existing racial divides and language barriers, using art therapy becomes essential in working with people as art is not restricted to one cultural grouping, but transcends these barriers constructed by people.
Interesting content. Used by some of my ITE art specialist students as supplemental reading for their own research.
A good, accessible introduction to the subject of art therapy with an overview of the history, guidance on different practical considerations and some helpful case illustrations as well as clear references for further reading. Not as in-depth in terms of clinical practice and reflection as other texts, more of a practical introduction to the field and career path.
Art therapy was not appropriate for this course.
The text provides useful insight regarding the design of art therapy interventions with diverse client groups. It is a highly recommended book for academics, practitioners and clinicians
A little too specialist for the art programmes we offer.
This book has lots of nice ideas and illustrations and we found that the techniques and methods discussed are easily transferable and inspire you to be creative in your own work.
