Learning the Craft of Qualitative Research Interviewing
- Svend Brinkmann - Aalborg University, Denmark
- Steinar Kvale - University of Aarhus, Denmark
A great approach to qualitative research, with a sound combination of methodological and theoretical knowledge alongside a vast use of examples. Highly recommended.
I used the previous edition and really liked that book.
The cost of the text does not warrant the specialised nature of the text for a general module in Research Methodology. The text is, however, added to the reading list for students.
I have to admit that I did not read the first two editions so can not comment on any additions/improvements to this book. However, what I can comment on is this third edition as a reference book for preparing, designing and conducting interviews. And what you get with this book is a very comprehensive insight into the topic area. It is very well written and clear. Every aspect of the interview is covered and I personally found it an excellent reference book when designing interviews for my studies. Svend Brinkmann and Steinar Kvale have produced an excellent resource here. A must buy!
Excellent book which will aid students carrying out research.
Excellent chapter on epistemological issues - added this as recommended reading for introducing qual methods.
A useful and highly recommended book for anyone who is, or will be working with interviews.
Good for specific guidance on conducting interviews. Gives practical tips and up to date advice.
Just like the earlier editions, I am strongly recommending it to any of my students considering to work with interviews.
A superb introduction to the craft of qualitative interviewing in academic settings, suitable for undergradate and postgraduate levels. Complex ideas of bricolage, the social construction of validity and epistemology are explained clearly, in relation to practical application. The learning tasks are only a few page out of a 400 page book, and appear to be rather an afterthought. However, this is the only criticism of a book that I will refer to for many years to come.
